Accountant. The Accountant maintains the financial and corporate records of The Principle Foundation in accord with the overall policies established by the Board of Directors and consistent with Christian Science practice. This individual is responsible for maintaining records of financial transactions, including preparation of income and expense reports, budgets, and governmental reports. May also be responsible for payroll and other financial operations.

General Description

Our work is a combination of individual contributions, collaborative teamwork, and inspired spiritual insight. Because we are a small staff, there is need for both breadth of knowledge and specialization based on the strengths of the individual team members. All staff members take calls and participate in processing grant cases. All staff contribute to the administrative and housekeeping tasks associated with a small office.

Accountant

Job Type: Full-Time   Location: Kansas City   Salary Range: TBD   Start Date: Immediate

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Metaphysically support The Principle Foundation (TPF) and its activities
  • Maintain current, accurate financial records
  • Post transactions
  • Prepare bills for payment
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements
  • Prepare mailing correspondence
  • Receive and deposit all income
  • Reconcile records with bank accounts and investment statements
  • May manage payroll through a payroll service
  • Complete state registration requirements for business registrations and for nonprofit solicitation licenses

Basic Requirements

  • Sincere practice of Christian Science with desire to help others
  • Radical reliance on Christian Science both within and outside of the office
  • Discretion and integrity both within and outside of the office
  • Organizational skills – organizing and prioritizing disparate data
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong computer skills – accounting software, MS*Excel, MS*Word, database (data entry and reports)
  • Problem solving skills – ability to deal with complexity and change
  • Bookkeeping skills
  • Understand acounting rules and practices
  • Excellence orientation – high standards of performance, follow-through, attention to detail
  • Teamwork and initiative – desire to collaborate and assume new responsibilities

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting prefered
  • Previous bookkeeping experience
  • Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas
  • Experience in non-profit fund accouting preferred

Qualifications

  • Membership in The Mother Church required
  • Branch church membership expected
  • Class instruction in Christian Science preferred
